The 2024 placement results by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has revealed that more boys than girls have secured places in universities for degree courses.

The KUCCPS released the placement results on Tuesday at the College of Insurance.

"Male applicants continued to dominate placement to Degree programmes, sustaining a trend that has been observed since the beginning of the central placement system," KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome said.

"In contrast, female students were the majority of those placed in TVET, from the 2020/2021 Cycle to the present."

Another key highlight from the 2024 placement was that the Bachelor of Education programme attracted the highest number of applicants.

KUCCPS noted that 85 per cent of 2023 KCSE candidates with C+ and above made applications for courses.

Of the total that made course applications, KUCCPS said 76.2 per cent opted for Degree courses while the rest opted for Diplomas (11,991).

During the 2023 KCSE Examination, a total of 899,453 candidates sat the Examination.

KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome said KMTC placement results were released to the institutions a bit earlier than those for universities and TVETS.

KMTC had its intake for new students in March.

"To enable KMTC to undertake admissions for the March intake, KUCCPS released KMTC placement to the institution. Similarly, KUCCPS has also released TVET placement data to the TVET institutions for purposes of their May admissions," Wahome said.

She said the placement is guided by the Placement Policy and Processing Procedure.

The key considerations are: the applicant’s choices, merit (qualifications), and approved capacities.

Affirmative action is applied for gender, persons with disabilities, and marginalised regions.
