Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua has warned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against picking up a fight with President William Ruto.
Makau, who described President Ruto as a master at political strategy, said that the Deputy President would be the biggest loser in the event a fight ensues.
Mutua said the best decision for Gachagua would be to resist the urge to fight his boss.
"DP Rigathi Gachagua will fight President William Ruto and lose big. He should resist the urge to follow in his boss’s footsteps because his boss isn’t Uhuru Kenyatta. As the late President Moi used to say, atajikaanga na mafuta yake!" Mutua said on X.
His remarks come amid talks of growing differences between the President and his deputy.
The alleged silent rift between Ruto and Gachagua has caused divisions in the Mount Kenya region to deepen.
Allies of the DP now claim there are influential people within the State House “sponsoring” youthful leaders from the region to undermine Gachagua’s authority.
However, on Sunday, the State House denied there was a fight between the President and the deputy President.
“To the best of my knowledge, there is no issue between the President and his Deputy,” State House, spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said.
“The Deputy President’s office is an office with all capabilities and competencies. If you want to ask any question or find out anything about the Deputy President, you can get it there.”
On Tuesday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua alleged that some individuals are being used to divide Mount Kenya.
He did not name the said individuals or the person sponsoring them to spearhead the divisions.
“For those who want to be used to divide us, continue, but our people are wise and they can see what is happening and when the right time comes for people to make a judgement, that's when those being used will know that the people of Mount Kenya are wise enough,” Gachagua said.
The absence of Gachagua from key state functions raised eyebrows among Kenyans as it was uncharacteristic of him.
Gachagua, however, made a public appearance Sunday when he attended a church service in Nyeri.
He later saw off Ruto as he left for his state visit to the United States.
