Expect moderate to heavy rain in parts of country – Met

The Met department has in its latest forecast said most parts of the country will experience moderate to heavy rainfall Friday through to Saturday.

The forecast shows that rains will be concentrated in the western part of the country and parts of the Rift Valley including Nairobi.

The forecast for Nairobi indicates that rains of up to 20mm are expected across six regions.

These are Makadara, Westlands, Kamukunji, Embakasi Central, North and West, as well as Mathare and Ruaraka.

The areas will experience the rains with sunny intervals in the afternoon, the forecast shows.

Minimum temperatures are expected to hit 16 ˚C and 25 ˚C maximum in the capital.

In Uasin Gishu, Bomet is forecast to receive rains of up to 20mm but the intensity will be higher in the neighbouring Turbo, Ainabkoi, Kapsabet and Kesses.

The weatherman said rain intensity in these areas will oscillate between 20mm and nearly 100mm.

Rains coupled with sunny Intervals will be experienced in the afternoon in Eldoret with 14 ˚C minimum temperature and 23 ˚C maximum temperatures.

The rain and sunny conditions will also be experienced in Mombasa, Kisumu and Nyeri whilst Nakuru and Marsabit will experience sunny intervals during the forecast period, the weatherman said.

Garissa, Mandera, Voi, Wajir, Kitale, Kisii and Narok are also forecast to experience sunny intervals.

Elsewhere, cloudy and sunny intervals are expected in Meru, Kitui, Machakos and Makindu while Lamu will experience sunny intervals and showers.

Meanwhile, a forecast by the Igad Climate Prediction and Applications Centre shows that Western parts of Kenya and the Coast are expected to receive heavy rainfall in the period of the June-September season.

Djibouti, Eritrea, central and northern Ethiopia, much of Uganda, South Sudan and Sudan will also receive the above-normal rain.

The temperature forecast shows a probability of warmer-than-normal conditions across Kenya and northern Sudan, central and western Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania.
