Ruto re-appoints ex-Supreme Court judge Jackton Ojwang EPRA board chair

He will serve for four years with effect from May 24, 2024.

President William Rutol has re-appointed retired Supreme Court judge Jackton Ojwang as the Chairman of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Board of Directors.

His appointment took effect on May 24, 2024.

"I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoint Jacton Ojwang as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority" Ruto stated in a Gazette Notice  dated May 24, 2024.

Ojwang will serve in the role for four years.

Ojwang was first appointed Chairman of EPRA’s Board of Directors by former President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 12, 2020.

He was to serve for four years which ended May 12, 2024.

Ojwang is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya with a span of 45 years of experience in the legal profession.

He had an illustrious 17-year career in the Judiciary after having been first appointed a high court Judge in 2003 and then elevated to the Supreme Court in 2011 as one of the key seven Judges of the newly created apex court.

He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Law from the University of Nairobi and a PhD in Comparative Constitutional Law from Downing College, Cambridge.

In 2015, he earned a Doctor of Laws degree (LLD) from the University of Nairobi making him the first sitting judge to receive the Degree.

He is an accomplished scholar and has authored numerous academic papers and other scholarly works.

He has also taught at reputable universities around the world including the University of Nairobi where he served for 27 years.

He has also been a visiting Associate Professor of Law at the J. Reuben Clark Brigham Young University Law School in the United States.
