Kenya Wildlife Service has rescued a sick lion that was in a dire situation at the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

KWS on Tuesday said the lion named Lorkulup, meaning a majestic lion, was in great danger.

"His head was swollen, and he struggled to breathe due to a suspected poisonous bite," KWS said.

Determined to save the lion, the KWS team set out on a mission to administer treatment to the creature.

Using a dart gun, the KWS Mara Vet team delivered anti-inflammatory medication to Lorkulup.

KWS said that after the treatment the Lion began to experience relief and his breathing eased as the swelling diminished.

"Lorkulup is now on the path to recovery, reunited with his brother, and will be closely monitored.
