Health services at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Kayole have been boosted following the unveiling of a Sh80 million CT scan machine.

The hospital’s CEO Dr Martin Wafula said the machine’s availability at the facility is great achievement for city residents.

“We have unveiled a new CT scan machine to ensure Nairobi residents get quality health services,” Wafula said.

He spoke on Tuesday during the unveiling of the machine.

The machine was supplied by a Chinese leading medical imaging company, Shenzhen Anke High-tech Co.

“With this machine, we will be able to conduct cardiac, pulmonary aorta and prolusion scans at low costs. These are some of the services that our residents lack," Wafula said.

He said the machine’s successful procurement was due to the good relationship between the hospital’s administration and its board of management.

Wafula said the machine has the capacity to conduct more than 100 tests a day.

“In private hospitals, CT scans cost Sh15,000 and Sh70,000,” he said.

Five of the hospital's medical engineers have been trained on the machine’s use and maintenance.

Mama Lucy Kibaki joins KNH and Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital as the only public hospitals with the service.

“Reports are done in less than two hours after scan. All members of the public are free to come to this facility for the services. It has helped decongest KNH,” Wafula said.

Shenzhen Anke High-tech Co Africa regional manager Boey Mo said the company has been supplying CT scan machines in private and public hospitals in Kenya since 2015.

“We keep bringing more products for medical solutions to improve healthcare services,” he said.

He said the machine will be maintained by Kenyan engineers and distributor’s engineers.
