Five suspects arrested in alleged job recruitment fraud in Nairobi

Preliminary Investigations revealed that the National Employment Authority had flagged the exercise as a scam.

Detectives from Nairobi Regional Headquarters arrested five suspects believed to be the masterminds behind a fraudulent recruitment drive for overseas jobs within Nairobi and its environs.

A foreign national and four others were arrested following a tip-off from the public about the activities of two suspicious recruitment agencies.

Following the swift response by the detectives, approximately 1000 jobseekers were saved from the suspects.

" The sole mission of the suspects was to fleece them off their hard-earned cash," police said.

Preliminary Investigations revealed that the National Employment Authority had flagged the exercise as a scam.

Police said the hunt is on for three individuals other individuals who managed to escape the police dragnet.

"The public is advised to remain vigilant and to report such agencies to the police for action, DCI boss Mohamed Amin said.

The suspects were detained at Capitol police cells ahead of planned arraignment on Monday.

Thousands of innocent Kenyans are conned in such drives annually amid a campaign against the vice.

In another incident, Police officers on arrested two suspects in Mulot area in Bomet County and seized copies of identity cards, sim cards and other items believed to have been used to perpetuate sim swap fraud.

The two were nabbed right in the act after the female suspect unprocedurally registered an Airtel line for her suspected accomplice (Denis) who has been on police radar for sim swap fraud.

The arrest comes amid complaints of increased cases of sim swaps in the country. Police have been conducting operations to tame the crime which leads to loss of millions.
