In addition to its road safety campaign, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has fully endorsed the Presidential directive on tree planting.

The initiative aims to achieve and maintain over 10 percent tree cover by partnering with various institutions, including schools.

On Saturday, Director General George Njao led the team in the planting of over 10,000 seedlings at Mwapala Primary School in Kwale County.

This happened a week after another team from the authority camped in Machakos County for the same course where it partnered with Kenya Forest Services (KFS).

Other counties where the Authority has planted hundreds of trees include; Kirinyaga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Homa Bay Kajiado and Nairobi.

"We will do more of this, as we come up with strategies to save lives, we will also ensure that drivers are coming from a healthy and safe environment by supporting the planting of trees," Njao said.

The government led by President William Ruto initiated the planting of 15 billion trees by 2032, a move aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping and reversing deforestation and, restoring 5.1 million hectares of deforested and degraded landscapes through the African Landscape Restoration Initiative.

Defence CS Aden Duale said the military will dedicate every fourth Wednesday of the month to planting trees.

“This is part of the broader National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Program, aligns with President William Ruto's target of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032,” Duale said.

He made the remarks when he hosted Environment CS Soipan Tuya at the Embakasi Garrison, where they led troops in planting more than 30,000 trees.
