Woman handed one year jail term for stealing 13 pineapples

She was convicted on her own plea of guilt after admitting to the crime.

Ruling

A 25-year-old woman was on Monday found guilty of theft and sentenced to one year imprisonment by a court in Kenol, Kiambu county.

Appearing before senior resident magistrate Sheila Nyaga, Sarah Nyambura was accused of stealing 13 pineapples worth Sh1,300 from the Delmonte Kenya farm.

According to the facts tabled by the prosecution, the accused was arrested on June 2, 2024, at around 4.22pm on Delmont farm while stealing of pineapples.

The court also heard that the accused was a repeat offender as she had been charged in the same court for the same offense in 2023.

Further, the prosecution told court that the accused was fond of recruiting minors and using them to assist her in perpetrating the crime of stealing the fruits.

Nyambura pleaded guilty and in mitigation, asked the court for leniency.

She said that she had stolen in order to pay school fees for her two school- going children who had been sent home for school fees.

The court found Nyambura guilty of the offense and convicted her on her own plea of guilt and sentenced her to one year imprisonment.
