Detectives have arrested a 25-year-old man believed to have murdered the manager of Chandarana Supermarket located within Buffalo Mall in Naivasha on May 22.

The suspect involved in Hassan Salim’s murder was captured on CCTV footage leaving the deceased's house with suspected stolen items.

DCI boss Mohamed Amid said the suspect was flushed out of his hideout within Naivasha town at 1 pm Wednesday after days of painstaking search.

He said analysis of CCTV footage that documented the robbery incident helped in the pursuit and eventual capture of the suspect.

“Today, intelligence analysis gave away the prime suspect, in whose possession were found most of the items stolen from the deceased's house including a TV set, a 6kg Pro Gas, a Samsung tablet, a hoodie branded NASA and a blood-stained bag,” Amin said in a statement.

“After a brief interrogation, the suspect led detectives to the scene of the crime (deceased's house), retrieving the two murder weapons he had used (kitchen knife and a piece of wood),” he added.

The top sleuth said in the day of the robbery, workers at the supermarket had arrived at the Mall early morning, hoping to find the doors open as was the tradition.

However, after waiting for way too long, they decided to call the deceased who was the manager on duty that day to establish what was taking him too long to report to work.

His phone went unanswered, prompting a few supervisors to go check on him at his house located at the Musaka complex building within Naivasha Township.

“Shock struck when they were met with blood spots at the door, although the house was locked,” Amin said.

He said the staff informed police in Naivasha about the shocking revelation and the officers rushed to the scene and forced the door open.

Amin said Salim was found sprawled on the floor in a pool of blood, already dead.

The body had several deep cuts on the head.

“Signs of struggle depicting an attack were evident, with various household items notably missing,” the DCI boss said.

He said crime scene investigation detectives collected crucial evidence from the scene including CCTV footage as a manhunt for the suspect was initiated.

“Further documentation of the scene has since been conducted and the suspect booked in Naivasha police cells pending arraignment for robbery with violence,” Amin said.
