Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has expressed confidence in securing the Nairobi UDA chair seat in next week's upcoming election.

The Governor was speaking to the media on Thursday, after meeting the UDA National Election Board.

"Mambo inaenda mzuri. Tunangoja tu kushinda (Things are going well. We are waiting to win)," he said.

The City Boss reaffirmed his confidence in winning the UDA County Chair seat, adding his delegates secured 240 slots out of 340 in the recent constituency elections.

Governor Sakaja emphasised his commitment to uniting the people of Nairobi under his "Siasa Safi" slogan, he reiterated it is all systems go and is ready to face his competitor.

The two rivalry camps met at the Party Centre where Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s team expressed dissatisfaction with the preparations for the upcoming election.

The election for City Chair was initially meant to be held on Friday, June 7, but has been pushed to early next week.

Earlier this week,  Gakuya, Sakaja's main competitor, said he would leave the UDA party if he did not win the election.

Gakuya, cried foul after last week’s constituency elections put Sakaja in a comfortable lead to becoming Nairobi UDA chairman.

Sakaja continued with his campaigns, meeting the 20 elected delegates from each constituency.

The governor, who met the elected delegates on Monday and Tuesday, urged them to shun divisive politics, which he said would impede the city’s growth.

“Let us not let tribal politics divide us. We need to create an environment for everyone to thrive regardless of their tribe,” Sakaja said.

On Monday, he met delegates from Roysambu, Kasarani, Mathare, Ruaraka, Westlands and Lang’ata.

On Tuesday, Sakaja met delegates from Makadara, Embakasi East, Dagoretti North and Kamukunji.

Starehe constituency elections were called off due to pockets of skirmishes.

Gakuya, who enjoys the support of DP Rigathi Gachagua, won his delegate seat from his constituency.
