The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has ordered a probe into two viral videos on social media allegedly inciting Kenyans.

The DPP directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) to work jointly with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) in the probe.

In a statement by the DPP's directorate of Public Affairs and Public Communications, the state prosecutor said the utterances in the two videos could incite Kenyans to violence.

"The attention of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has been drawn to two videos on social media that could incite ethnic contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination among Kenyans,'' the statement reads in part.

"Pursuant to Article 157(4) of the Constitution, the DPP has directed the Directorate of Criminal Criminal Investigations (DCI) in with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to expeditiously carry out investigations and forward the resultant investigation inquiry files for perusal and advise."

According to the ODPP, in one of the videos the speaker can be heard saying that while two communities in the country are engaged in fighting, another immigrant community is taking over.

The ODPP says that in the other video, the speaker says he will "make myself part of the people who have started the struggle for the liberation' of the said community.

The ODPP did not provide further details about the identity of the person captured in the videos, saying the investigation should be expeditious.

In the undated videos, a man who appears to be fielding questions in an interview tries to explain why the Kikuyu Community is allegedly being overtaken reportedly by the Somali community.
