Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has not been provided with a fully furnished and maintained office, the Office of the Fourth President of the Republic of Kenya has said.
Uhuru’s spokesperson Kanze Dena said claims by the State that the retired President enjoys a fully furnished and maintained office surprised them.
Addressing a media briefing, Dena said the State Hous made it clear that the office in Nyari should be the one used by Uhuru as the government bought it.
“The statement that the retired President enjoys a fully furnished and maintained office is incorrect. To date, the matter has never been resolved,” she said.
She said the late President Mwai Kibaki picked the office in Nyari, as suitable for himself.
As such, she averred that Uhuru was too entitled to choose an office that would suitable for him to serve his mandate.
On May 19, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed clarified that there exists an office that the former President can use anytime he wishes.
The office, he said, was used by Kibaki.
"There’s an office complex in Nyari that has been used by a previous president, the late President Mwai Kibaki and he occupied that office for 9 years. It is very well known that it is there and it's vacant and President Uhuru Kenyatta can use that office as and when he deems fit.
