Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has warned that the 2024 Budget may not put the country on a growth trajectory.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Karua said this year’s Budget is about “conspicuous consumption by the elite”.

“Budgeting is about making the right choices. Choices that can lead to a much safer Kenya based on true reference and respect for the people. It is not about funding the Executive,” she said.

She said the Kenya Kwanza has made a budget for itself with little input from the ordinary Kenyans.

“We wish to remind MPs that Kenyans are watching their every move to see how they respond to their cries,” she said.

The Azimio principal added that there are millions of Kenyans whose united strength can easily put in check the few hundred individuals sitting at the helm of power.

“Kenyans, this is our home, and we must fight for survival, let us not relent,” she stated.

She added that Kenyans must unite in their homes, in the villages, wards and counties to resist oppression.

“There is absolutely no justification for additional tax burden on the already overburdened and neglected populace,” she said.

She said the Kenya Kwanza administration needs to cut non-priority spending.

She said there is a need to reduce the travel budget and abolish offices of advisors at all levels.

“Cabinet Secretaries are expected to be competent enough to advise the presidency and at the county level, county executives are similarly expected to advise governors,” she explained.

Karua said it is utterly inhumane that after proposing an increase in taxes which she claims are projected to cripple businesses and cause job losses among the youth, health and education services will receive reduced funding.
