A team of detectives has been sent to Lumakanda, Kakamega County to pursue a gang that attacked and killed a night guard in a robbery at a restaurant.

The gang also hacked and seriously wounded another guard who responded to the screams of the deceased.

The injured one is in hospital in serious condition after the Wednesday, June 12 incident, police said.

The body of David Ekai, 43 was found outside the main entrance of the restaurant long after he had been killed.

Police who visited the scene said the body had multiple wounds.

Police said the deceased was attacked by an unknown number of assailants who broke into the restaurant and stole an assortment of alcoholic beverages valued at Sh1.2 million.

Ekai raised an alarm and alerted his neighbour who responded but was also attacked and seriously wounded.

He was rushed and admitted to Lumakanda County Hospital in fair condition.

The body of the deceased was moved to Webuye County Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The police squad sent to the area is under instructions to get the gang for justice.

Locals have complained of increased crime and called for action to address the menace.

In Mararal, Samburu County, police are looking for a rider who abandoned his motorcycle after a robbery incident.

The rider had carried a pillion passengers from Mararal Township to the Shabaa area when the rider turned out to be a robber and drew a sword demanding cash and other valuables from the victim.

This prompted a brief confrontation before the rider robbed his passenger of Sh20,000 and a mobile phone.

The victim fought back and prompted the rider to abandon his motorcycle and escape on foot.

Police said the victim sustained an injury on his knee in the drama.

An operation was staged in the area that saw two suspects arrested.

Police said they are hunting for more suspects in connection with robbery incidents in the area.

The operations are targeting riders in the area, police said.
