The Commission on Administrative Justice chief executive Mercy Wambua has been feted for spearheading the body to be foremost in public investigations in Africa.

Wambua was recognised for leading initiatives that have made the body the most outstanding in investigating complaints by the public against government entities.

The commendation was given during the African Public Service Optimum (APSO) Awards ceremony held on June 5, 2024, in Accra Ghana.

"This award is in recognition of your exemplary performance as a public servant whose excellent contribution to the practice of good corporate governance in your organization and to the overall socioeconomic development of Africa is commendable," the certificate accompanying the award reads.

The Commission was declared the “most outstanding commission in investigation of complaints across Africa.”

The commission, also known as the Ombudsman, is mandated to receive and investigate administrative complaints by members of the public against government entities.

A recent court decision gave the Commission the same power as that of the High Court.

Wambua said the award was humbling and energising to the commission staff for their spirited investigation of complaints that allege administrative infractions on the part of government officials.

“I'm honoured and humbled in equal measure to have been recognised for spearheading the most outstanding Commission in Investigation of Complaints Across Africa,” she said.

Wambua said the APSO Awards aim at identifying and publicly recognising exemplary performance by top-level public servants and public institutions across Africa.

The Awards are conferred on accomplished and exemplary public servants who have excelled in the performance of their duties.

“I dedicate this award to the Commission and all the staff at the Commission on Administrative Justice for their dedication and hard work,” she said.
