Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports CS Ababu Namwamba now says that he was pleased to face youths opposed to the Finance Bill, 2024 after he was booed at Fred Omondi’s tribute show dubbed “The Last Laugh”.

In a statement on Saturday, Ababu said when their emotions settle, they will realise that "we all have a country to build."

He said in this task, all Kenyans have a role to play and it involves paying taxes among others.

I was quite pleased to come face to face with some of our fellow citizens opposed to the #FinanceBill2024.

“When emotions settle, blinkers fall off and fact sifted from fiction, reality will dawn: the reality that we have a country to build, a task in which each of us have a role. Including the responsibility to pay taxes for national self-sustenance,” the CS said.

Ababu went on to say that he is happy the creative economy is a central pillar in the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda and the Finance Bill will facilitate robust initiatives that will help the sector develop from its current state.

Some of these projects he said will be launched next month under the Talanta Hela flagship.

“Finance Bill will facilitate robust initiatives like the transformative #WhozNext project for Kenyan creatives, which we are rolling out next month under the Talanta Hela flagship. Kenya tunajenga pamoja.”

During his appearance at the tribute show held at Carnivore Simba Saloon, the CS had a hard time addressing Kenyans who had gathered to honour comedian and singer Fred Omondi who died following a road accident.

He was brother to comedian and activist Eric Omondi.

The hostile crowd started booing him as he handed over to the officers who had accompanied him to say a word.

As Churchill intervened and tried to calm the crowd, they started chanting anti-Ruto chants.
