Police are investigating an incident in which a body of a police officer stationed at Lang’ata Police Station was on Friday found lying in a pool of blood on the roadside in Nairobi.

Police said two private guards at Ngei Phase II along Kitengela Lane spotted the body of a male adult lying unconscious on the roadside.

A team later identified the deceased as Corporal Mark Ayabei who was based at the nearby Lang’ata Police Station.

His body was found lying in a pool of blood and further examination established two stab wounds on his chest.

It is not clear who was behind the fatal stabbing and the motive.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

The officer is believed to have been on duty and was headed home when he met his death.

A team of detectives has been deployed to pursue the motive and killers, police said.

Meanwhile, two police officers were stoned and injured as they tried to arrest a rider who was allegedly ferrying jerricans of changáa in Juja.

The officers said they were patrolling along Kenyatta Road-Gatundu Road at Kibii center they intercepted a motorcycle rider with the illicit brew.

The rider resisted the arrest and raised an alarm alerting other riders who were there.

The mob started to pelt the officers with stones and sticks to rescue their colleagues.

Police said the two officers were hit with stones and sticks forcing them to abandon their mission.

The suspect was rescued and he rode off.

The officers were taken to hospital after the Wednesday afternoon drama where they were treated and discharged.

Police say they are looking for the mob that participated in the drama to face charges of assault and aiding the escape of a suspect.

Teams were sent to the area to pursue the about 20 riders who attacked the officers, police said on Thursday.
