Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa explained his 'yes' vote on the controversial Finance Bill 2024 to constituents at Chebukwabi market on Saturday.

Speaking at Chebukwabi market, he underscored the bill's critical role in providing the government with the necessary means to mobilize resources for development and execute its plans.

Barasa explained that the bill sets out the legal framework governing tax collection practices annually.

“Every year we normally have a finance bill that lays laws to be followed while collecting taxes,” the MP stated.

Barasa pointed out that all the issues that seemed to press the common mwananchi were removed from the bill asking the residents to support the implementation of the bill.

The MP cited the removal of taxes on local eggs, bread, diapers, and sanitary towels as key revisions made by the select committee in Parliament.

“Stop buying into the cheap propaganda spread by leaders at funerals about the Finance Bill 2024,” he said.

He dismissed claims that the Bill is seeking to impose heavy taxes on small business operators saying that the bill will require big companies to have eTIMS.

At the same time, MP Barasa announced the allocation of Sh100 million for the tarmacking of roads, Sh40 million for the completion of the Huduma center, Sh18 million for the construction of a storey building at Daraja Mungu primary school, Sh50 million for electrification and Sh12 million for fixing tiles at Chebukwabi school.  

He also announced the elevation of Matili Technical Training Institute to a national status.
