Politicians pledge to stand with Kalembe's children

The late ex-Kibwezi MP's children are now orphaned following mother's death on Tuesday.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has pledged to pay full scholarship for the children of the late MP Kalembe Ndile who are still in high school following the demise of both parents.

Speaking at Makueni County Assembly during the send off of Kalembe's wife Magdalene Kamene Nguluku, Mutula said he will mobilise fellow leaders to find a way forward for Kalembe's family.

"After the burial I shall mobilise the senator, the County Speaker, the Assembly clerk and all other leaders to find a way forward on how to take care of these children of this great hero," Governor Kilonzo said.

Kalembe, who served as the Member of Parliament for Kibwezi from 2002 to 2007, died on May 30, 2021 aged 57.

His widow Mama Kamene died on the night of Tuesday, June 18, 2024 after a short illness.

She was a nominated MCA at Makueni County Assembly under Maendeleo Chap chap Party.

Governor Kilonzo described her as a person who took her duties diligently with passion and zeal.

He also recalled her husband Kalembe who until his death was the leader of Tip Tip party as one who played a great role in the victory of his senate seat.

"A time like this in 2013 when I was in the same situation after losing my late dad, I didn't know to go North, South or West. Kalembe stood in the gap and I owe to be with you now," the Governor said while addressing the orphaned children.

Makueni deputy Governor Lucy Mulili said that she closely interacted with Mama Kamene and described her as a calm leader, wonderful mother, so loving and mature.

Makueni County Speaker Douglas Mbilu condolled with the whole House and the family and pledged to support the family at all times when needed.

Magdalene, 54, will be laid to rest at their Mbuinzau home, Nguumo ward, Kibwezi West.
