The office of the first lady and that of the second lady will no longer receive budget allocation beginning July 1, 2024, President William Ruto has said.

While revealing details of a new wave of austerity measures set to face the country, Ruto said the two offices will no longer be part of the equation.

The move, Ruto said, will enable the government to achieve the goal of ensuring the country lives within its means.

"I know citizens have said there is no need for the office of the first lady and second lady but these are offices that have been there," Ruto said.

"But because we have to live within our means, those offices from tomorrow will not be part of our equation because, in the face of what has happened, we have to trim down every other area."

Ruto spoke on Sunday during a roundtable media interview.

The president also promised to cut down his office budget saying it will trickle down to other state departments in his adminstration.
