The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has said former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was arrested in connection to an ongoing probe relating to claims of "conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence".

The DCI denied claims that the former MP was abducted and said he was arrested by officers from the National Police Service.

"Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence," DCI said.

DCI said the former MP was booked at Kamukunji Police Station and later released pending Forensic Analysis of exhibits.

"Thereafter the file will be forwarded to the ODPP for direction.  Police are urging members of the public to refrain from acts of violence, hate speech and malice for sustained peace and security in our beloved country," DCI added.

Earlier, police admitted that they arrested former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter in a dramatic incident captured on the road in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

The team involved in the drama said they staged the dramatic arrest after he allegedly resisted arrest.

The drama was caught on camera.

Police said they are investigating the former MP on some issues, we could not publish because by the time of going to press we could not get a comment from Keter on the said allegations.

“We tried to arrest him peacefully but he resisted. He is under probe over some allegations among other issues,” said an officer aware of the incident.
