As tension rises across different towns in the country due to possible protests, youth in Migori have begun the day with lit tires and blocked roads.

In a video seen by the Star, the protesters who are marching forward have lit a fire in the middle of the road.

The protests are a public response to the Finance Bill, which has sparked widespread controversy and opposition.

The bill has been criticised for its potential economic impact, and citizens are mobilising to express their dissent.

However, President William Ruto already withdrew the contentious Finance Bill, 2024.

The Gen Z who are largely credited for piling pressure for the Bill to be dropped have declined an invitation to be part of the National Multi-Sectoral Forum (NMSF), which is meant to address the concerns they have raised.

On Sunday, the youthful protesters held a candle-lit vigil at the Jevanjee Gardens in honour of their colleagues who died during Tuesday’s Occupy Parliament protests.

In Nairobi, parts of the city are seen to be clear with minimal movement as cars remain parked.

In Eldoret town and its environs, a contingent of police officers have been deployed ahead of the planned peaceful demonstrations.

Photos obtained by the Star show at least 18 police vehicles including land cruisers and lorries patrolling the city.

A number of businesses, however, remain closed.
