The damaged Timba XO club in Eldoret.

Timber XO, which was broken into and looted during last week’s protests has been temporarily closed for renovation.

The entertainment joint is associated with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.

A source close to the MP said the club had been closed for renovation.

"The club has been closed for renovation and will be opened once the renovation is complete," the source who spoke on anonymity said.

The club was opened in May.

The suspected goons who invaded the joint destroyed glass walls, windows and doors of the building and made away with liquor worth thousands of shillings.

Sudi has already announced he is taking a sabbatical leave from public engagements and development activities.

He explained that he made the decision because his participation in activities such as Harambee has been used against him.

"Going forward, I'll not participate in any Harambee because it has been used to malign and disparage the good course, let it be banned," he said.

At least 15 youths were presented in an Eldoret court Monday in connection with the protests in the town.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan as police sought 21 days to hold them in custody to complete an investigation into crimes they are alleged to have committed during the protests.

Sudi is named in court as one of the complainants in the case.

Investigations officer Ekiru Kirimoni told the court that the youth was being investigated for crimes including stealing, handling suspected stolen goods and malicious property damage.
