Raila Odinga's ODM party has said it will initiate and lead the recall of MPs in at least six constituencies who vote for the Finance Bill 2024.

Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the decision was made against MPs whom he termed as repeat offenders.

The MPs targeted for recall include Gem's Elisha Odhiambo, Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Elijah Memusi(Kajiado Central), Caroli Omondi (Suba South) and Emmanuel Wangwe(Navakholo).

"These are repeat offenders who voted against the wishes of the people in 2023 and 2024, there are a few who met their Damascus moment," said Sifuna.

Addressing the press in Nairobi after the ODM Central Management Committee meeting chaired by Raila, Sifuna said the recall of the MPs will serve as a lesson.

"We have started with the six so that it serves as a lesson to the rest," he said when asked why the party spared the rest.

The law requires that to initiate a recall of an MP a voter in the constituency must file a petition with the electoral commission with signatures from at least 30 per cent of the voters in the constituency and 15 per cent of the voters in each ward.

The recall is successful if at least 50 per cent of the voters in the constituency participate in the polls.

MPs can be recalled on the grounds of violation of the Leadership and Integrity law.

The six are among MPs who have been associating with the government despite warnings from ODM.

However, ODM has spared Lang'ata MP Felix Oduor who despite being among the MPs branded as party renegades, voted against the Finance Bill, 2024.

The party has been at loggerheads with the MPs for collaborating with Kenya Kwanza despite warnings from ODM leadership.

Jalong'o, Ochanda, Odhiambo and Omondi were among the six MPs that ODM expelled from the party last year but were reinstated by the court.
