At least three people were reported to have been shot and injured by a private citizen during the anti-finance bill protest in Mombasa.
Several people and police have confirmed to the Star that a person opened fire at close range at the demonstrators.
He is said to have been 'angered' by the protesters who had brought business to a standstill along Nyerere Road.
The three injured have been rushed to the hospital.
After the shooting incident, several vehicles were torched and a restaurant was also vandalised.
Firefighters have managed to put off the fire.
