At least three people were reported to have been shot and injured by a private citizen during the anti-finance bill protest in Mombasa.

Several people and police have confirmed to the Star that a person opened fire at close range at the demonstrators.

He is said to have been 'angered' by the protesters who had brought business to a standstill along Nyerere Road.

The three injured have been rushed to the hospital.

After the shooting incident, several vehicles were torched and a restaurant was also vandalised.

Firefighters have managed to put off the fire.

Protesters are now baying for the blood of the alleged shooter, who retreated into the restaurant.
