Several leaders, family and friends on Wednesday gathered at the All Saints Cathedral for the memorial service of former politician James Maina Wanjigi.
The late is businessman Jimi Wanjigi's father.
He died on Friday, June 28, aged 92 of old age at Nairobi Hospital.
Some of the notable leaders from the political class present include former vice president and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya's Marth Karua, Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Siaya Governor James Orengo National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi and former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.
Others are former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, former Agriculture CS Peter Munya, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, lawyer Paul Muite, former Busia Senator Amos Wako and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni among others.
In the run-up to Independence, Wainjigi was an assistant agricultural extension officer in Nyeri district.
After Tom Mboya was killed, Wanjigi took up his Kamukunji parliamentary seat in the by-election and went ahead to serve for 25 years, holding various roles, including in Cabinet.
He would become Minister for Agriculture, Public Works and other dockets before he quit active politics.
