Participants of a memorial concert held in honour of protest victims on Sunday mounted crosses bearing their names at Uhuru Park.

The concert was held at the same venue to mourn and honour all those who lost their lives during the anti-Finance Bill protests.

The government said 25 protesters died during violent clashes with the police but the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights put the figure at 41 and 361 injuries.

Thousands of Gen Zs and Millenials thronged Uhuru Park on Sunday for the concert to honour the death who they said died fighting for justice.

The event, dubbed Shujaaz Memorial Concert, also brought on board people outside the bracket of the two generations who are committed to supporting their course.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja who okayed the use of Uhuru Park for the memorial said he would attend the concert.

Organisers of the concert led by Activitst Boniface Mwangi said the concert is expected to start at noon and end 7pm.

Officials said A prayer event is planned at the nearby All Saints Cathedral before the event proceeds.

Already, a group of youth was seen distributing flowers at All Saints Cathedral ahead of their march to Uhuru Park.

Police have been heavily deployed in various parts of the City to ensure law and order.

The personnel were deployed at various places including near Parliament and State House and major roads.

Officials said this was just a precaution to avert any form of crime that may happen there.

“We are there to ensure safety for all,” said a police officer.

Mwangi said among the artists to grace the event include Khaligraph Jones, Bien, Fena, Nameless, Octopizzo, Charisma, Juliani, Eric Wainaina, Sarabi Band, Graffiti Band, Mutoria and DJ Moh.

Others are DJ Double Trouble, Field Marshall Band, Njerae, DJ Lordiwn, MC Kwambix, MC Kibunja and MC Njoria among others.
