Detectives are investigating a tragic incident where a 60-year-old man allegedly stabbed and killed his wife in a dispute over Sh30 in a village in Siaya County.

The man identified as Ben Odweso was later lynched by a mob after the incident in Nyalula village, police said.

He had allegedly stabbed and killed his 55-year-old wife Pamela Anyango on Sunday, July 7 afternoon following a disagreement over Sh30, police added.

This prompted a mob to respond to the scene and landed on him with stones and kicks killing him.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said a relative to the deceased reported the incident hours after it had happened.

He said they had established the money was meant to be a church offering but went missing from the house.

Kimaiyo said the police who visited the scene were informed the couple was in the house with an adult daughter when the disagreement arose.

The man is accused of taking the money and when asked he turns wild attacking the woman and killing her on the spot.

The daughter escaped the scene screaming for help which attracted locals who responded.

Kimaiyo told journalists they had established a son of the couple responded and found his father armed with a knife and metal rod outside the home.

“The father attacked the son with a knife injuring him in the neck and leg as he responded to the scene where the mother was lying motionless,” said Kimaiyo.

By then, a mob had arrived at the scene and cornered Odweso stoning him to death.

Odweso was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition and was also confirmed dead on arrival.

The injured son was also taken to the hospital, treated and discharged.

The bodies of the man and woman were taken to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.

Such cases have been on the rise amid calls for parties to solve them amicably.

Elsewhere in Mathare slums, Nairobi, a 25-year-old man was Sunday killed in a fight at a changáa den.

Police said Hashim Abdalla was with other revellers at the den when the fight broke out.

He was hit in the neck and head collapsed at the scene and died.

He was rushed to the nearby MSF Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Police said the body had visible injuries on the throat caused by a blunt object.

The motive of the fight is yet to be established. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy.

The hunt for the said assailants is ongoing, police said.
