Ruto said his passing is tragic because Justice Majanja was only at the beginning of an illustrious career.

"The Hon. Majanja was a brilliant lawyer who joined the Bench after an exemplary spell at the Bar. His integrity and ability inspired the confidence of his colleagues, while his powerful intellect made him a trusted juridical voice," the President said in a statement on X.

"It has been evident for long that although fairly experienced, Hon. Majanja was at the beginning of a long and illustrious career, and this fact makes his passing all the more tragic."

Ruto prayed for God's comfort to the family of Majanja as they mourn his demise.

"On behalf of the government, I extend condolences to Hon. Majanja's family and friends and to the Judiciary. May Almighty God grant you the strength to bear this loss, and may his soul rest in eternal peace."

Preliminary reports indicate that the judge had checked in at the hospital for surgery.

Justice Majanja was first appointed as Judge of the High Court in 2011 and was until his death stationed at the Milimani Civil Division court.

Justice Majanja was first elected to the JSC on May 14, 2019, for a five-year term.

This came following the end of Judge Aggrey Muchelule's five-year tenure as JSC male representative on April 4, 2019.

He was sworn in as a member of the Judicial Service Commission on May 28, 2024, after he was re-elected to represent the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) on JSC.
