Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka now says that while a government of national unity is good, it is not the way to go for Kenya.

Speaking on Thursday, when he attended the Pan African Youth Convention in Nairobi, Kalonzo said it is an idea that should be explored going forward.

He went on to say that anyone intending to form a government of national unity should do it immediately after elections.

He said pursuing it after two years does not look well, as he lauded South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for taking the same route.

"What President Ramaphosa has done, Government of National Unity is a way to go but not in Kenya. Not now. We can think of the Government of National Unity going forward but immediately after an election," Kalonzo said.

"Not waiting for two years, people are dead then you come and say the government of national unity. I don't think it looks well."

The former Vice President added that he will continue to be in the opposition.

"In my case, I'm very clear I want to do opposition until we remove dictatorship in this country," he said.

Kalonzo's remarks come ahead of the planned national dialogue that is set to begin on Monday, July 15.

President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila announced a national 6-day dialogue under the National Multi-Sectoral Forum scheduled for next week.

The forum will foster national dialogue and seek lasting solutions to Kenya's pressing issues.

Ruto emphasised the importance of the forum stating that it will propose the way forward for the country.

“This forum will begin on Monday, next week and end on Saturday next week, it will be a 6-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country,” Ruto said.

The ODM leader reiterated the importance of the forum, saying that it will give Kenyans a chance to be heard.

"Dialogue is the way forward out of the crisis we're having in our country," Raila added.

"We have agreed that we give people an opportunity to be heard, to express themselves so that a lasting solution can be found."

Kalonzo had also insisted that there should be no talks.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kalonzo said the Wiper party is in support of Gen Z saying they will not engage in any dialogue.

"In terms of the Gen Z revolution, it appears that the administration lacks an understanding of public sentiment. Generation Z does not wish to engage in dialogue. They want action and Wiper agrees," Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader said that the current state of the nation would be avoided had the government addressed the cost of living and implemented the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) findings.

According to Kalonzo, the government does not need dialogue to implement critical projects in the country.
