10 students injured in accident along Nyamira junction

At least 10 students were injured after the bus they were travelling on was involved in a road accident along the Nyamira Junction area.

According to the police, the bus was travelling from Nyamira to Kisumu on Sunday at around 6:45 am when the accident occurred.

On board were 41 students and four teachers.

Police said upon reaching the Nyamira Junction area, the driver lost control of the vehicle stating that the brakes failed and veered off the road to the right side while facing Oyugis direction and hit a nearby building.

"As a result of the impact, the occupants survived injuries as follows; 10 female students were seriously injured, 12 female and two male students were slightly injured and other six students and four teachers escaped unhurt," police said.

The injured have since been treated at Okita Nursing Home in Kadongo and referred to Nyamira County Referral Hospital for further treatment.

Police said the vehicle's front windscreen was shattered and the front bumper extensively damaged.

Police visited the scene and took the necessary action.

The bus was towed to Othoro Police Station and detained pending inspection.
