Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said Kenya is keen to strengthen her close bilateral relations with France amid the evolving global dynamics in today's inter-linked world.

He stated that the country appreciates the long history and relationship established with France based on cooperation and partnerships spanning over 60 years.

He said the collaborations have indeed benefited the citizens of the two nations across various spheres of life.

"It is appropriate that we celebrate the bond that we enjoy now, as we reflect on our collective achievements and look forward to even greater partnerships moving into the future," said Mudavadi.

"Over the decades, our partnership has grown stronger encompassing a wide array of sectors including trade, education, culture and development cooperation among others."

Mudavadi said this when he graced the French National Day celebrations held at the Embassy of France in Nairobi on Sunday.

Mudavadi said Kenya appreciates France's support in advancing Kenya's economic development as France has remained a true development partner for Kenya, supporting various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for Kenyan citizens.

"France has continuously lent Kenya a supportive hand as we thrive to cement our position as Eastern Africa's regional gateway and financial hub," said Mudavadi.

"French enterprises are playing a pivotal role in key sectors of Kenya's economy with French public and private investments largely contributing to the transformation and modernization of our country."

Mudavadi lauded French development assistance as having been crucial in areas such as health, water and sanitisation which are essential for the wellbeing of the citizens.

Notably, the involvement of French firms in major infrastructure projects such as the upgrading of the Nairobi Commuter Railway and the urban infrastructure, Mudavadi said the support has gone a long way in enhancing connectivity resulting in boosting key income generating activities.

"These projects not only create jobs but also foster the transfer of technology, skills and human power thus further strengthening our economic base," said Mudavadi.

The Prime CS noted that Kenya and France are both firmly devoted to environmental protection and confronting the plights of climate change.

He pointed out the collaborations on various environmental initiatives, including the preservation of biodiversity and promotion of sustainable energy solutions.

"Kenya's ambitious goal to achieve 100% renewable energy by the year 2030 aligns with France's leadership in advocating for global climate action," he said.

"Our partnership in this area is critical as we work together to adapt and mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect our planet for future generations."

He emphasised that looking into the future, there is immense potential for Kenya and France to grow their bilateral relations and explore new frontiers in areas of collaboration in innovation, technology and sustainable development.

"Kenya re-affirms her commitment to closer and stronger working relations for a better future, guided by the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity," affirmed the Prime CS.

The Bastille Day celebrations coincide with the arrival of the Olympic torch in Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympic games.

The Bastille Day was coined from the period France gained independence following the French Revolution of July 1978, when protesters took to the streets to express their opposition to the King and Queen then which resulted in the collapse of the monarchy.
