President William Ruto has urged the church to pray for him as he reconstitutes the cabinet.

Speaking during a church service at A.I.P.C.A Ndogino, Nyandarua County, Ruto said he needs guidance as he appoints new workers, to help steer the nation towards the right direction.

"Hii serikali iko hapa mbele muniombee ndio nipate wafanyikazi watakaonisaidia kutimiza ahadi tuliwekeana mimi na nyinyi," he said.

This is loosely translated to, "For the government ahead, pray for me so that I can get workers who will help me achieve the agreement we made with you."

He said he wants to transform the nation, into one that does not need loans to progress and is not in debt.

He noted that he has appointed a working group to audit the debts to ensure that Kenya is steady, stable, prosperous and carries the aspirations of Kenyans.

On Thursday, the President dismissed all Cabinet Secretaries except Prime Cabinet Secretary and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Ruto stated that he will engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations and other Kenyans at large.

The Head of State said this is to set up a broad base government that will assist him in accelerating the necessary, urgent and irreversible implementation of the programme that the state has.

This includes dealing with the burden of debt, raising domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminating wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and ending of corruption.

This, Ruto said, will consequently make the government lean, inexpensive, effective and efficient

"During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials," he added.

On July 5, President Ruto gazetted the Presidential Taskforce on Forensic Audit of Public Debt, appointing eight members.

"I William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Constitution and the Statute Laws of the Republic of Kenya, do hereby order and direct that a Presidential Taskforce on Forensic Audit of Public Debt is hereby established," he said.

The task force will serve for three months effective July 5, 2024.

The task force is mandated to verify the current stock of public and publicly guaranteed debt, reconcile the proceeds of loans with the requisite appropriation and reconcile the loan servicing/repayments with the attendant terms of the facility based on the relevant context and the terms of the loans.

Further, the task force will assess whether the country obtained value for money concerning the terms of the loan, the cost of the projects financed, the return on investment, and equity; including inter-generational equity.
