Three children die after Hepatitis A outbreak in Uasin Gishu

Three children under the age of 10 have died of Hepatitis A in Uasin Gishu County.

County Health Executive Abraham Serem reported that ten additional disease cases have been detected in the region, particularly in Ziwa within the Soy sub-county.

He noted a significant increase in Hepatitis A cases over the past month.

“We have ordered testing kits and we are working with the Ministry of Health to ensure that we quickly detect the cases and deal with the situation," Serem said.

Serem said all the cases had been detected following tests at the Moi Referral Hospital

He was speaking when area Governor Jonathan Bii toured Uasin Gishu county hospital to asses services to the public.

He said with the heavy rains in the region, there was likelihood of an outbreak of diseases but the county had deployed public health officers to monitor the situation in all areas

Bii pledged to upgrade health facilities in the county as part of measures to decongest Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital

The governor said the county would soon implement delayed promotions for health workers
