Dadaab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) after he was summoned last week.

In his appearance on Tuesday, Maalim recorded a statement with the commission over remarks he allegedly made regarding the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill, 2024.

According to NCIC, the MPs remarks are likely to incite hostility and discrimination.

"Hon. Farah Maalim is currently recording a statement in honour of the earlier summon issued by the commission.

"The utterances are likely to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination, and affect harmonious coexistence between groups of different political affiliations in Kenya, contrary to Section 13 (1) (a) of the NCI Act," the commission said on X.

The Dadaab MP had been summoned to appear on Thursday, July 11.

"Farah Maalim is required to appear before the commission to assist with the aforementioned ongoing investigations."

However, Maalim in a video shared on his social media accounts denied allegations that he advocated for the death of Gen Z during the anti-tax protests.

The MP who has been under fire dismissed claims that he called for the butchering of the youth saying it does not reflect his position.

"I never called for the death of any Kenyans. I didn’t and I will never call for it," he said.

Maalim insisted that he is a leader of integrity and will not compromise the reputation he has carefully built over many years.

"I am a very honest person for over 30 years of have been in the politics of this country. I am one person who has had a track record that is matched by very few people," he said.

Maalim said that he would do what he believes is best for the country according to his conscience.
