Police in Nairobi CBD were seen refiling their teargas canisters as protests continued to take shape.

This is after a police lorry parked at the roadside as a group of officers approached it to refill their teargas.

They were seen taking the canisters, pocketing them as they walked away.

Protests in Nairobi have started taking shape as residents come out to demonstrate.

Demonstrators were seen gathered in groups along different streets in the town.

Some protesters carried placards demanding the reintroduction of the Linda Mama program and auditing of the national debt.

Earlier, protesters barricaded a section of Moi Avenue near Kencom in Nairobi CBD.

They scattered stones on the road, rendering it impassible for motorists.

The protesters had barricaded Moi Avenue, forcing police to disperse them.

Most businesses in CBD also remained closed. There was a heavy police presence in the CBD.

At the same time, police mounted roadblocks along State House road.

The Gen Z protests began on July 18.

Tuesday’s protests were called by the organisers to primarily pile pressure on the government to take accountability for the people who lost their lives during the protests, and those still missing.

The government has admitted that at least 25 people died. However, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) put the death toll at 41 and 360 injuries.
