The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has denied links to a summit organised to ostensibly 'change Kenya'.

In a letter dated July 17, 2024, and addressed to the Solicitor General, EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud said the Commission was a "total stranger" to the contents of the invitation letter to the alleged summit.

"Kindly note that the Commission is a total stranger to the averments made by this Citizen and takes great exception to the same," Mohamud said.

"In particular, the Commission is not a party to the said Forum and neither has it advised or asked him to take any of the actions discussed in his letter, including organizing the purported event."

In the said letter, Lawrence Bosire Miruka, a whistleblower, invited the Solicitor General and 17 other state agencies in the governance sector to what he referred to as an Economic Forum.

Miruka claimed he had organised the forum at a hotel in Naivasha on July 22, 2024, purportedly on the advice, or at the behest of the EACC.

Miruka invited 18 state agencies including the AG's Office, EACC, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Miruka told the invitees, in the letter, that he was acting on the advice of EACC.

"Having a dialogue on the economic issues by all stakeholders herein and coming up with a lasting solution is a new dawn and a game changer for the country's peace, prosperity and tranquillity," the letter by Miruka to State Agencies stated.

"Allow me with pleasure of inviting you to the Economic Forum Meeting on 22nd July 2024."

When contacted by the Star, Miruka maintained his stand that the Forum will continue even though he confessed to lacking the requisite funds to facilitate the expenses that come with such a gathering.

He confirmed that no arrangement had been made to book the venue of the meeting but still maintained the forum will still be held, be it in future.

"The meeting will have to happen even if it means changing the date to allow funds to be raised to facilitate it," Miruka stated.

The EACC  has however cautioned state agencies and Kenyans at large that it has never, and will not be a party to the forum.
