The young generation popularly known as the Gen Zs has been leading the nationwide protests.

This was a shift from the norm as political parties and organisations are the ones known for leading the demos.

However, the country's high cost of living and unemployment have triggered Gen Zs to come out and protest, Infotrak poll reveals.

The high cost of living is leading with 54 per cent followed by unemployment with 52 per cent.

Number three was the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024 with 43 per cent followed by corruption at 36 per cent.

They were followed by the high cost of education with 13 per cent, lack of political representation with 11 per cent and economic inequality with 10 per cent.

At least four per cent were inspired by protests in other countries and one per cent were triggered by poor business environment.

About one in every four interviewed Gen Zs 27 per cent affirmed to have personally participated in the ongoing protests.

The survey was conducted on July 14 and 15, 2024 with a sample size of 1,000 respondents to represent Gen Zs aged 18-27 years at the time of the survey.

There was a margin error of ±3.099 per cent at a 95 per cent degree of confidence.

The interviews were conducted through computer-assisted telephone interviews.
