A group of Boda boda riders have vowed to stop anti-government protests.

The riders who were on Tuesday seen patrolling the Nairobi Central Business District called for peace to prevail.

With horns blaring, they moved in an organised way, as groups of riders are known to.

One of the riders was carrying a passenger who appeared to be a fellow rider with a placard reading, "We also have a right to work #stop demos".

The riders could be heard saying it is time the youth gave President William Ruto time to act on their grievances.

"President apewe time afanye kazi. Amewasikiza ya kutosha wacheni afanye kazi na awajibike (Give the President time to work. He has heard you so give him time to work and to be accountable)," one of the riders said.

"We only want peace. Amani, amani," the riders shouted in unison.

The riders took over CBD, preventing the Gen Z protesters from dominating the grounds.

Business in the area was going on as usual by noon, with buses trailing their usual streets.

"This is CBD. We have taken over and businesses are going on as usual. Here there is peace, and we want peace and normalcy," a rider was heard saying.

Tuesday's protests were expected to mainly occupy Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanjahas warned off.

JKIA is a protected area, thus off bounds for unauthorised personnel.
