Francis Ndirangu when he appeared before a court in Eldoret over the murder of his wife on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

An Eldoret businessman Francis Mwangi Ndirangu has been arraigned for the murder of his wife who was a senior employee of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Ndirangu appeared before Deputy Registrar of High Court Rosemary Onkoba who ordered that he be taken to the same hospital for mental assessment.

Onkoba ordered that the suspect be brought back to court on Wednesday, July 31, to take a plea for the offence of murder.

David Fedha who is in charge of the ODPP office in the region told the court that Ndirangu will be charged for the murder of his wife Rael Cherop Biwott alias Rachael who was a senior accountant at the hospital.

Ndirangu allegedly committed the offence on the nights of June 22 and 23 at Shauri estate in Eldoret.

On the fateful day, Cherop who is a mother of four failed to turn up for duty and efforts to trace her proved futile.

Her mutilated body parts were later found dumped along a roadside in Nandi County.

DCI officers investigated the murder and later arrested two people including her husband.

When he appeared before the court, Ndirangu was asked if he had anything to say.

“I am unwell and request to be released on bond”, he said.

However, Fedha opposed the request saying it could not be dealt with before plea-taking’

“The prison department has good medical facilities to take care of him if he is unwell,” said Fedha.

The suspect will be represented by lawyer Oscar Oduor.
