It is all system go for the three-day annual Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair 2024 that opens its doors on Thursday, Agriculture and Livestock CEC Stephen Kimwele has said.

Kimwele told the media at the Ithookwe showground that all the preparations for the show were complete, adding that due to high mobilisation, at least 100,000 people are expected to attend.

“We are excited by the number of exhibitors who have booked slots in our show this year. It is our hope that the showgoers will follow the same trend and attend in their numbers,” he said.

The official said infrastructure at the showground had been improved significantly.

He further said there will be 24-hour security within and about the show to ensure the safety of the showgoers and their property.

“Those in attendance will be searched at the gate to ensure criminals do not sneak in any gadget that could be used to harm others,” he added.

Kimwele said those attending the show will be treated to modern crop and livestock production technologies and trading titbits blended with entertainment.

“There will be no dull moments for showgoers. Away from the serious business of agriculture and trade matters, people will dance and have a good time at the discotheques,” he said.

“We have taken care of the interest of all people. We want everybody to enjoy once they come to the show. Thus we invite all to come to our show,” he said.

He welcomed residents from the three Ukambani counties of Kitui, Makueni and Machakos among other Kenyans to show up in their numbers to learn from technologies on display to help keep famine at bay.

“At the showground, we have a demonstration farm that is less than an acre where we are showcasing various climate smart farming technologies and various drought escaping crops,” he said.
