Several leaders have voiced their opinion after President William Ruto named the second batch of his cabinet.

On July 11, Ruto dissolved his Cabinet, sending home all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General.

Last week the President named the first batch of 10 cabinet secretaries leaving a vacancy of 11 others given that Prime CS and CS for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi had been in office.

During his address to the nation on Wednesday, the President nominated 10 CSs to the second batch of the cabinet nominees.

The President nominated Kipchumba Murkomen for the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Rebecca Miano for the Ministry of Tourism, Justin Muturi for the Ministry of Public Service, Salim Mvurya to head the Ministry of Trade and Alfred Mutua for the Ministry of Labour.

Ruto further nominated members allied with Opposition leader Raila Odinga to the cabinet.

He named Hassan Joho for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives and MSME Development, John Mbadi for the Ministry of National Treasury and Opiyo Wandayi has been nominated to head the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

The move has been received with mixed reactions from leaders and Kenyans alike.

Some have celebrated the CS nominees while others expressed their dissatisfaction.

In a statement on X, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua reacted by saying the struggle continues.

"Let every person stand by the courage of their convictions #AlutaContinua," Karua said in a statement.

In a statement on X, lawyer Donald Kipkorir expressed frustration with some members of the opposition joining the cabinet.

He said that it is up to Kenyans to do the oversight job by holding the government to account.

"Now that ODM has joined the government, together with UDA (Kenya Kwanza), they now own the success or failure of Kenya Project! It is now left to Gen Z, Kalonzo Musyoka, the Media (thee yonder, the 4th Estate) and the High Court (Constitutional and Judicial Review Divisions) to be the loyal opposition to hold the government to account," he said.

Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita said with the nomination of the new cabinet, there is a disconnect from reality.

"I can’t for the life of me surmise how this complete disconnection from reality came about. Is it a case of cognitive dissonance within ODM or what? From the frying pan into the fire. I pray for Kenya and I pray for our young people that they see the future they so genuinely deserve in this lifetime," Waita said.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nasir sent a message to Joho after he was nominated to head the Mining ministry.

"On behalf of the people of Mombasa, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Hassan Ali Joho on your nomination as Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs in the government of Kenya," he tweeted.

Nassir stated that Joho's dedication, leadership and vision have been recognised, adding that the people of Mombasa do not doubt that he will excel in his new role upon confirmation by the National Assembly.

"Your passion for public service and your ability to bring positive change will undoubtedly make a significant impact. Congratulations once again, and may your tenure as Waziri be filled with success and fulfilment," Nassir added.
