Three suspects have been arrested in Mombasa following a police ambush in Nyali Estate.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, detectives were responding to a surge in criminal activities in Mombasa town and its vicinity, when the arrests were made.

The three suspects are believed to be masterminds behind the crime wave in the area.

Following the ambush, detectives arrested two suspects who after interrogation, led the officers to their rented house.

In their hideout, officers discovered another accomplice.

DCI said a thorough search of the premises yielded four pangas, two Y-6 twisted metal bars sharpened at the edges, and 18 small bales of bhang.

The detectives also recovered 10 assorted suspected stolen mobile phones, six spotlights, four suspected stolen livestock (sheep), one 32-inch TV and one gas cylinder.

The trio were escorted to Mombasa Central Police Station for processing, pending arraignment.
