National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang'ula has appealed to Azimio co-principals to support the government of national unity formed by President William Ruto.

Ruto on Wednesday nominated four Azimio leaders allied to Opposition chief Raila Odinga into his new-look cabinet of 20 individuals.

Raila hinted that he wasn't consulted but supported the nomination and wished the nominees well.

Ruto vowed to work with all leaders despite their political affiliations, a move he said was aimed at uniting the country after a series of street protests.

The move was, however, not well received by a section of Azimio co-principals.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his Narc Kenya counterpart Martha Karua have repeatedly said they won't work with Ruto.

Ruto is yet to name the nominees to the AG's office and the Ministry of East African Community and ASAL.

Both Kalonzo and Karua have scorned at the idea of being nominated the country's next Attorney General.

In a statement on Saturday, Wetang'ula called for collaboration from all leaders saying unity government is essential for the country's stability.

"I calle upon other Azimio leaders to abandon their hardline stance and collaborate in forming a government of national unity, essential for achieving Kenya’s economic stability and prosperity," he said.

The speaker was speaking on Saturday during the laying of the foundation stone ceremony for the construction of Webuye East Teachnical Training Institute.

Wetang'ula called on leaders from the Western region opposing the President's proposals to unite in supporting the government.

This is after a section of political leaders from western Kenya met in Nairobi to chart the way forward for the region.

They said leaders from the region holding senior positions in government have failed to fight for the interests of Western.

However, Wetang'ula said that leaders serving Kenyans should be respected and supported to achieve their mandates.

"I appealed to Luhya leaders opposing President Ruto’s initiatives, reminding them that Kenya's well-being surpasses individual interests and urged them to respect the leaders appointed to serve in the government," the Speaker added.

Wetang'ula said that it is through the selfless and patriotic actions of the political class that national healing will be stimulated after the recent period of youth-led demands for reforms and improved governance.

He commended the former prime minister for responding to the President's call.

"This has been reinforced by the Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who responded positively to President William Ruto's call for the formation of a broad-based cabinet, thereby fostering the nation’s healing and stability," he said.

The recent political developments in the country has had Azimio co- principals expressing different opinions on whether or not they will join Ruto.

Speaking on Friday, Kalonzo said his conscience cannot allow him to work with the Kenya Kwanza government.

He said even the President himself is well aware that they can't work together.

"They think that I, Kalonzo Musyoka can join their government? I can't, my conscience will not allow me, for the love of this nation we will stand. Even President William Ruto knows that I will be his opposition, that he openly knows," Kalonzo said.

Narc Kenya and Wiper party allies were left out in Ruto’s latest nomination to the Cabinet.

Word started flying around that either of them may be considered for the AG's post, something they have all flatly said they would never accept.

"Thanks not interested," Karua said on Saturday in response to a social media user who had suggested that she takes up the AG role.

On Thursday, her party narc Kenya issued notice to exit from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

Karua in a tweet on X said “Our stay in Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance is no longer tenable”.

The official notice of divorce was communicated in a letter addressed to coalition secretary general Junet Mohammed by acting secretary general Asha Bashir.

“Kindly take note that our stay in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is not tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” she said.

“As Narc Kenya by way of this letter, we are giving notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the exit clause (s) in the Coalition Agreement. This notice is effective from the date of this letter,” she added.
