President William Ruto has defended the establishment of the broad-based government saying it was necessary for the country to have a fresh start.
His remarks were in response to a question during a town hall meeting in Mombasa on why he reappointed some of the CSs he had dismissed.
"It was necessary to have afresh start, because I told the people of Kenyan we are going to have a broad-based government and a fresh start," he said.
The President ssid the retained CSs should know that it's not aboput friendship but about having a second opportunity to start afresh.
"They must now know that this is new, the terms are different. We may have been friends but now the terms are different.
"They have come back in cabinet on new terms. We are going to work on timelines that Kenyans have given us and some of these people have good track records," Ruto said.
He added that it was necessary to have people from the opposition because the country has for long been divided along party affiliations.
"And I said this time round, let me form a government that has a broader face of Kenya and that's why you some of the members of my cabinet coming from different political formations."
The President said the move to form a new government was to include people who represent the face of the country.
He said he approached a number of leaders to come work with him; some accepted while others declined "and that's their democratic right," he said.
