Ruto: I'm making interventions to create jobs in Kenya

The President said that the Housing fund has created jobs for 160,000 Kenyans.

President William Ruto has listed five interventions he is undertaking to create jobs in the country.

Speaking Sunday night during a townhall engagement in Mombasa, the President said the Housing programme has created jobs for 160,000 Kenyans.

The President was responding to questions raised by a Mombasa resident  during the town hall engagement.

"Today we have engineers, surveyors, masons, architects, electricians and carpenters. We have a whole ecosystem of people who manufacture steel and concrete," he said.

The President said the government has so far constucted 103, 000 housing units across the country.

He said that the Housing programme will create jobs and business opportunities besides creating decent living conditions for Kenyans.

Ruto said that another intervention he has been working on to create jobs is through ICT Hubs.

He said that the country is taking all government services to the digital space to create more opportunities.

"We have changed the law on CDF to make it possible for the country to invest in ICT Hubs, I have agreed with all the MPs that every ward should have an ICT Hub," he said.

The President said the digital space can connect millions of youths in Kenya.

"The MPs will build the ICT hubs in every ward and the government will deliver internet, computers and trainers it is up to to young Kenyans to monetise their Knowledge, talent and expertise to grow their incomes," he said.

The Presidednt said the export of labour is also creating jobs for Kenyans abroad besides manufacturing and special econominc zones.

He said the government has a programme with the Ministry of Labour to source for job opportunities in foreign countries.

He said the government will tap into the opportunities to work outside the country.

"I have negotiated many opportunities. I have been travelling to make sure I connect Kenyans to jobs both in the country and outside the country," he added.

Ruto said that a good quality labour will drive the country's economy to greater heights.

He pointed out that remittances from Kenyans in diaspora has hit about four billion dollars.
