Attorney General, EAC and Asal CS nominee to be vetted on August 9

This follows their nominations by President William Ruto to be members of his new Cabinet.

Attorney General nominee Dorcas Oduor and East African Community and Regional Development CS nominee Beatrice Askul will be vetted next week.

In a schedule released by the Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge, the vetting will happen on August 9, 2024.

This follows their nominations by President William Ruto to be members of his new Cabinet.

“It is notified to the general public that in compliance with Article 152 (2) of the Constitution, section 6(4) of the Public Appointments Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, Cap. 7F and Standing Order 45(3), the Committee on Appointments shall conduct Approval Hearings (Vetting) of the nominees on Friday, August 9, 2024,” the notice reads.

In the notice, Askul will be vetted first at 10 am while Oduor will face the panel at noon.

The vetting will be held at the Mini-Chamber, County Hall, Parliament Buildings.

The process will be undertaken by the National Assembly’s Appointment Committee chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

“Each nominee shall bring his or her original identity card, academic and professional certificates and other relevant testimonials, letters/certificates of compliance.”

Kenyans have until next week Thursday, August 8, 2024, to give their views on the nominated CS and Attorney General before the vetting exercise starts.

“In compliance with Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, the Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites members of the public to submit any representations they may have, by way of written statement on oath (affidavit) with supporting evidence contesting the suitability of any nominee proposed for appointment," the notice reads.
