Health CS nominee Debra Barasa has said that she is one of the people who benefitted from the Linda Mama program.
Speaking at Parliament during her vetting, Barasa said she is an advocate of the program and if confirmed, one of the things she plans to do is incorporate it into the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
"I am a beneficiary of Linda Mama. My daughter is a beneficiary of Linda Mama and so I'm an advocate of it and I will make sure it is incorporated if SHIF is rolled out," she said.
Dr Debra in her remarks said the challenge with Linda Mama is that there was no policy to guide the transition.
She noted that she is aware funds have been allocated for the program.
"During the transition period at times, such activities may fall through the cracks but funds have been allocated from the discussions we were having while I was at WHO with the National team," Debra said.
"We need to have a transition plan or guidelines to ensure some of these critical covers like Linda Mama are there while we are transitioning."
